The Story Behind The Name
Hi, I’m Sandy, a certified court interpreter in California, I am also an experienced district translator, and I worked as a special education interpreter and translator for over 10 years before becoming a certified court interpreter. I founded Spectrum Translations in 2017 and chose the name in homage to those who formed an important part of my social education: Back in my college years, I volunteered as a note-taking assistant to students with disabilities at Long Beach City College. That was my introduction to working with people with special needs, although I prefer to think of them as people with special talents. I began my volunteer experience with the intent to help others. But I soon found out that it was quite the contrary. My students taught me how to develop greater empathy towards people who have trouble communicating clearly because of a speech impediment or lack of fluency in English. During that year, I realized that I had found my life’s mission: to help people who can’t communicate on their own.
The name Spectrum comes from my passion for helping people communicate clearly across a wide range of industries, including the parents of children on the autism spectrum. Autism can cause persistent challenges in speech and nonverbal communication, among other conditions.
Spectrum also refers to the broad range of industries, cultures, and languages that Spectrum Translations can handle. We are all part of the human spectrum, and when we can understand each other linguistically, our differences become indistinguishable.

Hi! I’m Sandra Ledesma, a bilingual author and Spanish translator. I live in sunny Southern California with my husband and our son. My first children’s book, It’s Party Time! But Where Is My Outfit?, was inspired by the cheerful chaos of unexpected, last-minute family and neighborhood celebrations, where getting ready in time turned into a thrilling adventure!
When I’m not dreaming up new stories or characters, you’ll find me wandering through bookstores and libraries or sipping a Cuban coffee. As a certified English–Spanish court interpreter and a proud former English learner, I understand the challenges and the magic of living between two languages.
Soon, my book will be available in Spanish and other languages so more families can join the fun and celebrate the joy of reading together.
